Aesir Monument (Rune System)

Permanent stat / skill enhancement tree, unlocked via guild participation. Has compounded since EP6.0 with the “Advanced Rune System” (Star Runes). Most class build-paths assume you’re filling key runes — soft-required for any serious progression.

Key idea

The Aesir Monument is a node-based rune tree: spend currency to unlock nodes that grant permanent stat boosts, modify your skills, or unlock entirely new skills. Nodes are class-specific — each class has its own tree.

Unlock

  • Level requirement: 40+
  • Guild requirement: must have joined a guild
  • NPC: Valkyrie Orloum in Prontera (gives the Aesir Monument and starter currency)

Currencies

CurrencyUsed forEarned from
Contribution medalsStat nodes; required for skill nodes tooGuild Donations, Guild Dojo (~150 per area + 5 assisting), Guild’s Gift (25), guild events
Gold medalsRequired (alongside Contribution) for skill nodes (flame icon nodes)Guild Dojo high tiers, weekly guild content, events [VERIFY current sources]

Node types

  • Stat nodes — flat stat increases (STR, AGI, VIT, ATK, MATK, etc.). Cheap, contribution-only.
  • Skill nodes — boost existing skills (e.g. damage % up, cooldown reduction). Marked with a flame icon. Cost both currencies.
  • New-skill nodes — unlock entirely new skills or skill enhancements. Rare, expensive.

Tier structure

Trees expanded across episodes:

  • Base rune tree — original system, unlocked at Lv 40
  • EP6.0 “Advanced Rune System” — added new sub-trees and the Star Runes layer
  • Star Runes — premium rune slot system (see below)

Star Runes (key concept)

Star Runes are a separate, more powerful rune layer with class-specific named runes. They drop from / are sold via:

  • Weekly Prontera vendor
  • Guild Vending Machines
  • Cloudsea Archipelago ([VERIFY current location / availability])
  • Various event drops

Examples (assassin path → see guillotine-cross.md for full list):

  • Soul Hunting Pact - Star Rune — +1–5 max souls; +1–30% Soul Depravity damage
  • Enchanting Chain - Star Rune — Ghost Wave scales with souls; Soul Chain absorbs INT
  • Crusading - Star Rune — Cross Ripper Slasher damage + counter cap up
  • Soul Assassination - Star Rune — crit damage scaling + counter generation
  • Spiritual Pierce - Star Rune — added in a later patch (per ROM Handbook)

Star Runes are slotted into specific Aesir slots and can be socketed, refined, combined, or altered depending on the rune.

Reset / refund

Refund mechanics exist (you can re-spec the tree) but typically cost extra currency or a special item. [VERIFY current refund cost / item on SEA]

Best practices

  1. Unlock the tree ASAP — even a low-tier guild participating in Dojo gives meaningful contribution flow
  2. Stat nodes first — they’re cheap and the foundation
  3. Skill nodes for your main rotation skills — prioritize the runes that buff the skills you actually use (for SBC: Cross Destruction, Crusading, Soul Assassination, Void Poison)
  4. Save Gold medals — they’re the bottleneck. Don’t spend on stat nodes you could fill with contribution alone.
  5. Star Runes are end-game — chase them after your base tree is mostly filled

For Soul Blade Cross specifically

See guillotine-cross.md and soul-blade.md for the priority rune list across the lineage.

Top picks for SBC PvE:

  1. Cross Destruction — Cross Impact + Sonic Blow damage (carry-over from GX)
  2. Crusading - Star Rune — Cross Ripper Slasher
  3. Soul Hunting Pact - Star Rune — +max souls, Soul Depravity damage
  4. Soul Assassination - Star Rune — crit damage + rotation counter generation
  5. Void Poison — Poison ATK / RES (still valuable; Poisonous Smoke meta in Oracle Dungeon)
